Historic partnership in Romanian basketball: CSA Steaua Bucharest and Laguna Sharks become CSA Steaua Sharks

Parteneriat istoric în baschetul românesc: CSA Steaua București și Laguna Sharks devin CSA Steaua Sharks

On August 8, 2025, CSA Steaua Bucharest and ABC Laguna Sharks announced the launch of a joint project, with an ambitious goal: creating a strong and complete club, capable of performing at all competitive levels - from children and juniors, to seniors in the National Men's Basketball League (LNBM).
This project brings together two complementary worlds: the experience and infrastructure of Steaua, alongside the youth development force of our private club, in a unique model of cooperation between the public and private sectors in Romanian sports.

Clear objectives: performance, visibility, community.

The new club will operate at all competitive levels, from juniors to the senior team, which will compete in the National Men's Basketball League.
The ambition is twofold: immediate results on the court and the construction of a sustainable structure that will train top players and attract new generations to basketball.

Plans include:
– investments in training coaches and in the development of training methodologies;

– community events and campaigns dedicated to promoting basketball in schools;

– international collaborations to expose young people to foreign competitions;

– developing a club culture in which athletes, parents and supporters feel part of an extended family.

A partnership between tradition and future.

CSA Steaua Sharks aims to be competitive from the first season of LNBM and to become an educational and sporting landmark for young people in Bucharest and across the country.
CSA Steaua Bucharest brings to this partnership an impressive track record: 21 national championship titles, two Romanian Cup trophies and 3rd place in the European Champions Cup (current Euroleague), a successful performance in 1961. In the 73 years of existence of the basketball section, the military club has represented sporting excellence and competitive spirit.
On the other hand, ABC Laguna Sharks, founded in 2006, has quickly become one of the most important private structures in Romanian basketball. With 14 national junior champion titles, over 45 medals at national and international championships and more than 40 players trained for the national teams, the Sharks have proven that the development of young talents can be done at the highest level. In the last four years, the team has also been active in the LNBM, being the only 100% private club in the recent history of the competition.
Education and sports, together.

Another important pillar of the project is Lumina Educational Institutions, a partner of Sharks since 2021. By continuing this collaboration, the new club aims to ensure the essential balance between performance sports and quality education for young players.
CSA Steaua Sharks is not just a merger between two clubs, but a long-term commitment to the future of Romanian basketball. A project built on tradition, passion and vision, which aims to inspire, grow and open new paths for generations of athletes to come.
